How Do I Find My Network Controller Driver

How

I decided to take the plunge and install win 10 on one of my machines. Used windows update to install build 10074 from windows 7.
Everything seems to have worked fine except my network adapter (onboard Realtek thing) isn't being detected.
Figured this might be a driver thing so I installed various versions of the realtek drivers both win 7 and win 8 ones and these seem to install fine but then cannot detect the card. The installer gives an error that the card may be in 'Deep Sleep mode'.
Once installed the Device 'REaltek PCIe GBE Family Controller' appears in device manager with no issues or conflicts, but nothing is in the Network Connections window when I go through Network and Sharing centre.
I have tried booting to the trouble shooting menu and selecting load unsigned drivers but this has not worked.
I rolled back to Win 7 and the card came back and all connectivity was restored. Re-installed win10 and back to the same issue.
Any thought/ideas?
Cheers
Dave

That's your wifi chipset, it might be better to think of it as a 'Wifi controller'. Do I need to find a driver that will handle both wired and wireless connections for this network controller? Or do I need a wifi driver for the network controller because the network controller only handles wifi.

You may have a problem with that controller..

if the driver supplied with your Drivers disc doesn't work you can go to the HP site, click on Support and download the driver for that particular machine. By the way, it sounds as though yours is a Realtek controller. You will not find those on Intels site as they are a totally different company. While you could search around and try to find different Realtek drivers to work, I am loathe to suggest it. In my experience, the HP support site is as good as any manufacturers site in the world in having the proper things listed for a given machine.
If you are running Windows 7 and you have any other method of connecting to the Internet with that machine, you can load Windows Update and it may -even likely will- find the proper driver for you.

thanks for the response,
unfortunately the realtek driver on hp support website for my device does not work.i think the only way around it is connecting the system to the internet through a dongle,so i can update the driver with windows update.
any other advice will still be welcomed.
thanks

The LAN Driver for that System is a Realtek not a Intel Driver

As Noted above these are different companies completely different companies and what one makes will not work with the other.
You can get this driver from the HP Web Site by entering your System Model and selecting the OS you have loaded. With 7 there are 4 options 7 Home 32 Bit, 7 Home 64 Bit, 7 Professional 32 Bit or 7 Professional 64 Bit. Doesn't matter if you have Home or Professional but it certainly does matter if you have a 32 or 64 Bit OS. Here you need to right driver for your OS so if you have a 32 Bit OS get the 32 Bit Version and if you have a 64 Bit OS get the 64 Bit Version.
As you have a Realtek Ethernet Driver with this you generally need to Update the Driver from the Device Manager so go to the Device Manager after downloading the Realtek Driver and right click on the Ethernet Controller and select Update Driver from the Drop Down Menu.
Select where you saved the Realtek Driver when prompted and click on whatever goes for Next/Update or whatever in 7.
That will install the Ethernet Driver.

hi Col,
the realtek driver on the hp website does not seem to be the actual driver, it tells me installation successful but the ethernet driver is still missing from the device manager.i autorun the driver and even update driver from device manager, but its still not working. i thought of installing the intel driver at first because the processor is intel and ethernet hardware is joined on the motherboard.
Sent from heaven song. thank you.

maybe your device is defective.

if the driver doesn't take by the o.s., then device may actually be defective. if so, then it may have been destabilizing the o.s.
but there are all kinds of Ethernet replacement devices you can buy and use, like usb types to bypass the onboard defective one
