My students can no longer download GameMaker Studio 1.4 - causing serious teaching dilemma
I am teaching a beginning game design course at a college in the United States and we use GameMaker Studio 1.4 as our tool. We have the educator license for all students how take the course, but we also have students who take the course remotely away from the college. For students who work off campus I've had them download the free GameMaker Studio 1.4 program. Now I see that it has been removed and I am unable to create a new free license for 1.4.
This is a serious issue for my ability to teach my students. I was unaware that yoyogames was planning on removing access to the older version of the software so soon. I cannot adjust the curriculum for the course for the 2.0 version overnight so I still need to get access to the older free version as well as licences for my students.
What do I need to do to make this happen?
Any advice would be appreciated.
At first, I thought of Game Maker as a tool for unskilled beginners to make psuedo, they-don’t-count games. Then Spelunky came along and took away my snobbery, showing me that the entry-level tool could be used to create fantastic games. Then Gunpoint came along, and replaced my snobbery outright with a permeating sense of bitterness and regret; the kind which penetrates deep to your core and gradually erodes all your personal relationships.

Game Maker Stusstudio can be used for creating 3D stuff, as one of its developers recently demonstrated, but you’d probably be better off using Unity if 3D is your aim.

Otherwise, don’t let anything stop you. If you want to make a game, throw yourself in, muddle your way through, and you’ll definitely get more out of it than you put in. The alternative is becoming a dried-out husk of failed ambition and lost opportunity, like me.
